It’s been slightly over a week since the close of the 3rd Annual Video Commerce Summit. I’m still on a high from the event. Some quick facts about the 2011 Video Commerce Summit:
- 106 attendees, nearly triple the size of the 2009 video commerce summit and the largest ever.
- 1,800+ tweets from the summit
- 80% of the attendees were retailers – all stripes: multi-channel, pure-play, flash sale, manufacturer.
- 7 Jam-Packed information sessions, including a keynote address by YouTube.
Had I walked away with just a few lessons learned and a handful of additional industry connections, the summit would have been well worth attending. But to me, the video commerce summit (we’re now calling it the “VCS” for short) was and is about much more than attendee numbers on a spreadsheet or tidbits of knowledge gleaned. It’s about energy, passion, and knowledge converging to advance the overall video commerce industry. For two days, the buzz around online video and audience’s thirst for knowledge came together to create a wonderfully delicious explosion that will propel the industry forward and create a foundation upon which to build truly “killer” video commerce programs.
2011 Video Commerce Summit Attendees
On the summit’s main day, we experienced a massive vibe of tweets (1,800+) radiating out of Silicon Valley as video commerce knowledge was spread and shared. Beer bottles clinked as summit attendees watched the Giants play the Arizona Diamondbacks (actually, not much baseball was watched, people were too busy talking!) A professional video set was set up on-site to capture the energy of the audience. All sessions were also professionally recorded. REELSEO founder and all-around video marketing guru Mark Robertson delivered a phenomenal presentation on the rise of social video and how it is impacting the trajectory of video commerce. Panelists debated. Audiences participated. The level of engagement was off the charts throughout the entire conference.
To me, attending this year’s video commerce summit felt like I was right smack-dab in the middle of watching a new industry being born. A veritable video commerce ‘big bang’ if you will. I am so proud of Liveclicker for putting on this event, but I’m even more proud to be associated with such an amazing company and talented group of people. It’s an awesome feeling.
